Salt Spring Commons
A milestone in the drive for affordable housing on Salt Spring Island. Salt Spring Commons consists of 24, two and three-bedroom townhomes designed as long-term rental for Salt Spring families.
Program Highlights
Occupancy permits for the Phase 1 buildings (12 homes) was achieved in an impressive 18 months build-out timeline. Phase II occupancy of a further 12 units delivered in the following 6 months. The project also deliveries a Common House featuring a community room for classes, childcare, birthday parties, and other gatherings.
The project boasts being one of the largest solar projects in the Gulf Islands. The grid-tied solar on the development’s Common House building will power 24 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, landscape lighting, and shared laundry. A system of 220 solar panels is expected to supply an estimated 30% of the domestic energy needs for the townhomes.
Salt Spring Commons is set in a 3-acre forest setting featuring a Community Garden, shared fruit trees, and berry patches that are integrated into the landscaping. Walking trails through the forestlands provide pedestrian access to Ganges, Mouat Park, as well as all the village amenities, schools, and services.
The development is owned and operated by Salt Spring Island Community Services, who accept rental applications, submitted through the BC Housing Registry.
